Audio Junk Food: Zo! & Tigallo Vs. The Twelves

Browsing for new music, I came across this remake of Aha’s “Take On Me” by Brazilian producers, The Twelve. Being the 80′s kid I am, this immediately brought back memories of me sitting in front of the TV watching MTV for hours on end. I was truly waiting for any Michael Jackson video, but every now and again, they would play AHA’s video and I would marvel at how they made the people into a comic book. Last year, Zo! and Tigallo (Producer Zo! and Grammy Nominated vocalist Phonte) teamed up for their Epic (as in DOPE as HELL) EP, “Zo! & Tigallo loves the 80′s”. They also did a bangin rendition of Aha’s joint. Take a listen to both and tell me who did it best…Click to listen, Right click to download.

DJ Jazzy Jeff Vs. Michael Jackson

13011_thumbnail2

My just forwarded me a link to the most incredible mixtape, and so I had to share with you. DJ Jazzy Jeff is perhaps one of my biggest DJ influences. I saw him in 2006 do a tribute to Jam Master Jay that made me want to be a turntablist sooooo bad. He partnered with T-shirt Brand Undrcrwn to do a mixtape dedicated to the king of pop. He does an incredible job of mixing Michael’s Pop Tunes, Sampled Tracks and Rare Grooves. The result is a super cohesive mix of Michael’s greatest musical moments. You’re Welcome in advance.

Miss Jackson’s Website is NASTY!

I was on the phone with this guy last night, talking about the late, great DJ AM and decided to visit his website. I found that his site had been done by some really great and inspirational designers, Sparkart. So I went over to their site to see more of their awesome work. Turns out, these are the go-to designers for most of the music industry. On their blog, they had just finished Janet‘s site and gave an overview of the functionality.

My favorite part of her site is the music section. It’s not just a simple discography, with pictures of album covers and song lists. They take it a few steps further. The menu scrolls into this really cool line of CD cases. When you click on the case, a picture of the actual CD slides out. This takes you to the CDs page, where the page layout looks like artwork from that album (see below). There’s a video player that plays all of the videos released from that album, plus you can see the actual album artwork images. The attention to detail is stunning and the functionality definitely makes me want to come back again. The “Control” album page is fire! Check it out!

Michael Joseph Jackson 1958 – 2009

I am so sick right now…I’m heartbroken. I was about 8 years old when Thriller came out…I still have my original copy. I remember the first time I saw the Billie Jean video. I remember when Disneyland was open for 48 hours when Captain EO came out. My mom woke me up out of my sleep and took me to see it. I love her for that.

I loved Michael Jackson. I was and am a fan. I would watch his videos for hours, trying to mimic his moves, his voice. I wanted to become him. I remember being him for halloween, Gheri Curl, glove, socks and all. I had the doll, the buttons, the pencil cases, the notebooks, I went to see the Victory tour…man, this just hurts so much!

He was more than the King of Pop. He was a Musical Genius. Michael was captivating. Everything about him seemed magical. From that point on, I was a devout fan. His music was always so full of emotion. He didn’t just sing a song, you could feel him giving you his soul with every vocal inflection. On a ballad, he could make you fall in love…on a dance track, he made you want to get on the floor. His gift was thorough. No one could challenge the strength of his voice, his stage presence, his songwriting, his essential star power. Today, pop stars dream to capture the world like Michael. He is and will forever be the standard by which all others will be measured. As a DJ, when you play Michael, you know the party will come alive. I prefer to remember him as he was on Motown 25. At the peak of his stardom, wrecking the stage with his brothers, and then blowing you away on his own. I will miss you Michael. Thanks for the Magic.

Patiently Waiting | Air Jordan 60+

The Air Jordan 60+ is the latest in the Jordan Brand’s series of hybrid kicks. Scheduled to release in August, at a cost of $150, this new style is representative of all the shoes MJ wore when he scored over 60 points on his opponents. The base of the shoe is the Jordan 2, which I’ve never really been a fan of. I thought they officially went to the well too many times, that is, until I saw the Laney shoe (blue & gold version). It’s fabulous…Take a look at all three and let me know what you think.

5 Styles of Kicks Every Collector should have

sneakerconsamples
source: Sneaker Con

Every sneaker collection starts small. Mine started when I was about 10 years old. There was my first pair of blue and black suede pumas…then the white, red and blue Reebok classics…My first pair of chucks (grey with baby pink laces), and so on…Of course, I went on to have the coolest sneaker head job ever, and my collection swelled to as many as 500 pairs. But, in the end, it’s not how many pairs you have, but which pairs are the most coveted. You can have 5 pair of shoes and have a killer collection, as long as you have the right 5 pairs. These are my pics, not in any particular order, and not any particular shoe. (That would be a reeeeealllly long discussion.) I’m just going for the categories with this one. Let me know if you agree.

1. Classic White/White Sneaker (Usually an adidas Superstar or Nike Air Force 1, but lately, I’ve found a lot of nice options like the Ubiq Fatima Perforated)

2. High Performance Shoe (Running or Basketball will do, Think Adidas or Nike.)

3. Sneaker Boutique Exclusive Colorway (Something you will not find in the Slauson Swapmeet, footlocker or the mall, period. Think Undefeated, Proper, Huf)

4. Air Jordans in any style (Not team Jordan or any of the other Jordan brand styles. I’m talking AIR JORDAN)

5. Slip Ons (Usually Vans, but these days, Supra, Creative Recreation and a few others make a nice option)
